Dr Nasuha Yaacob joined Mercy Malaysia (MM) as an ordinary volunteer in 2011, upon returning back to Malaysia from Hajj medical mission. She has always been passionate with humanitarian causes and went through MM’s basic mission training in 2012. Her first deployment was to Philippines in 2013 following Haiyaan typhoon where she was actively involved in strengthening medical services at Ormoc District Hospital in Leyte Island, particularly providing emergency obstetrics service. She went back again to Ormoc in 2014 to provide much needed midwifery refresher training in emergency obstetrics care.
Dr Nasuha is an obstetrician & gynaecologist, she completed her Masters in O&G in 2009. She further subspecialises in Reproductive Medicine & Infertility. She is currently the in the Reproductive services unit at Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah Kuala Terengganu.
During her overseas training in Ireland in 2015, she spent her winter break in Lesvos Island with a UK-based NGO, providing medical care to Syrian refugees who made boat-crossing to Greece in hoping for a better life in Europe.
In 2016, upon returning home, she was appointed as ex-officio of Mercy Malaysia. She has been actively structuring the establishment of Mercy Malaysia’s Emergency Medical Team, specifically in aspect of Reproductive and Maternal Health care provision, aiming towards obtaining verification by World Health Organization (WHO). She is also representing MM in the WHO EMT’s Working Group for Maternal & Child Health (MCH).
