Ovarian choriocarcinoma can be gestational or non-gestational in origin. Non-gestational chorio-carcinoma of the ovary is extremely rare, which occurs usually in the reproductive age group. Its diagnosis is very difficult during the reproductive years as it often mimics ectopic pregnancy, torsion ovarian cyst, etc. It is necessary to distinguish between cases of non-gestational or gestational choriocarcinoma of the ovary, as cases of non-gestational choriocarcinoma have a poorer prognosis compared with gestational cases, and the treatment regimen for the two diseases differs.
We present a case of a 16 year old girl, case of bleeding pure non-gestational ovarian chorio-carcinoma, which presented as a leaking ectopic pregnancy on her first presentation to us. Following surgery, she had undergone multiple course of chemotherapy BEP (Carboplatin) regime and is currently disease free without evidence of recurrence or metastasis subsequent to 12 months of follow-up.
Herein, we report a case of this unusual tumor because of its rarity, discuss the diagnosis and treatment, together with a brief review of the literature.
