Dr Ixora Kamisan Atan

Dr. Ixora Kamisan is a Senior Lecturer in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in UKM Medical Centre. She is a UKM thoroughbred, graduating her first degree in 1999 and subsequently Master in O&G in 2007. She completed her subspecialty training in Urogynaecology in Sydney Medical School Nepean in 2014, trained by Professor Hans Peter Dietz in Nepean Hospital, Penrith, NSW. Her main expertise is in pelvic floor imaging and she is the first Malaysian gynaecologist to be formally trained in Translabial / Transperineal Pelvic Floor ultrasound. She is also an accredited preceptor / trainer for the International Urogynaecology Society (IUGA) Pelvic Floor Imaging Module.

Dr. Ixora is currently in her final stages of her PhD in Medicine under University of Sydney with a thesis titled: “Pelvic floor trauma following delivery.” From 2012-2014, she was appointed as the Honorary Clinical Lecturer in O&G by the University of Sydney. She had been awarded the ‘Isobel Corin Award’ for young researchers in 2012 and 2014, by the Nepean Medical Research Foundations (Australia) and, the University of Sydney Postgraduate Research Scheme in 2014 and 2015 to present her work in pelvic floor trauma internationally. She is also an external researcher affiliated to Sydney Medical School, Nepean. Her special interest is in Maternal Birth Trauma and she has just set up a Maternal Birth trauma clinic in UKMMC, a specially designated clinic aimed to manage women who had sustained major perineal trauma. She has numerous recent publications related to pelvic floor imaging and pelvic floor trauma following childbirth. She is also a reviewer of peer reviewed publications on pelvic floor trauma, pelvic floor imaging and maternal birth trauma for a few well known journals in the field.
